Supporting literacy early on involves creating a language-rich environment where children are encouraged to explore books, express themselves, and engage in conversations. At Woodcrest, we incorporate storytelling, phonics activities, and interactive reading strategies to spark a love of learning from the very beginning.

Early language and literacy development builds the foundation for academic success, critical thinking, and effective communication. It helps children gain confidence, expand their vocabulary, and develop essential skills for reading and writing as they grow.

Language and literacy are central to all areas of learning. Strong reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills enable students to access information, express ideas clearly, and succeed across all subjects—from math and science to the arts.

At Woodcrest, grammar is taught through a blend of direct instruction, writing exercises, and contextual learning. Students learn grammar not just as rules, but as tools to strengthen their writing and communication, reinforced through real-world application and personalized support.

At Woodcrest School, we offer a variety of sports for kids throughout the year, allowing students to stay active, build skills, and enjoy friendly competition in every season. Our sports programs are divided as follows:

  • Fall sports: Students can kick off the school year with soccer and cross country. Soccer helps young athletes develop coordination, teamwork, and endurance, while cross country builds stamina and perseverance through long-distance running.
  • Winter sports for kids: During the colder months, students can participate in basketball leagues. Our basketball programs focus on skill development, strategic thinking, and teamwork, providing a structured and exciting environment for players of all levels.
  • Spring sports: As the weather warms up, students can take part in intramural volleyball and track and field for kids. Volleyball encourages teamwork, communication, and agility, while track and field events help athletes improve their speed, strength, and endurance in a range of competitive events.
