Woodcrest School offers an accredited private kindergarten in Tarzana CA near Encino, Sherman Oaks, and Woodland Hills in San Fernando Valley CA.
At Woodcrest School, we give careful attention to providing a smooth transition from preschool to kindergarten. Our primary goal is to help our students develop cognitively, socially, and emotionally in a happy and safe environment. Small class size and an emphasis on individual growth enable us to design the program to reflect the needs and abilities of each child. Social and emotional learning is explored through the Sanford Harmony program empowering students to foster strong relationships with each other.

Kindergarten Curriculum



Encompasses letter recognition, phonics, blending of vowels and consonants, ability to track sounds and words, produce word families and rhyming words. Distinguish between fiction and non-fiction, list the elements of a story, use pictures to make predictions, recite short poems,rhymes and songs. Write simple sentence and combine drawing dictation and writing to compose a story.
Begins by understanding the relationship between numbers and quantities, count, recognize, and name order of numbers, compare and identify numbers that are equal to, more than or less than, collect data,record results, identify simple patterns, identify and describe common geometric objects, calculate accurately, check answers, and tell time.
An understanding of what being a good citizen means. Learn examples of honesty,courage, responsibility, and determination. Identify their name, family names and classmate’s names. Recognize national and state symbols and icons. Construct maps of neighborhood and school and learn about weather.



Teaches to locate books, use a shelf browser when checking books out, identify what an author does, identify what an illustrator does, and recognize the difference between fiction ad non-fiction.
Involves the understanding and care of the equipment, use of digital drawing tools, identify computer components and introduction of the iPad.
Learning about common plants, animals, and insects. Identify different types of landforms, changes in weather and conduct scientific investigations.

Parent Organization

We are fortunate at Woodcrest School to have an actively involved group of parents who care deeply for their children’s education. All parents are encouraged to take on leadership opportunities as well as attend Parent Organization events.
The Parent Organization is comprised of parent volunteers who help support the school through fundraising activities, as well as assist in a variety of school services and share many responsibilities, including:
- Sponsorship of Annual Teacher Appreciation Lunch
- Coordination of safety programs
- Support of the garden
